I've gone green and I am more conservative and I need some ideas?
Not long ago I made the decision to live greener and more conservative. I tried to come up with ways to help the environment and have so far taken the following measures: – I started to recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles. – I formed a gutter system and made a rain barrel to conserve water – I plan to buy the recycled grocery bags I enjoy doing these things and we hope find more than I can do! Thank you
Going green is easy, there are so many great resources on the topic. My favorite is "The Green Book" that part of its online booking and to www.readthegreenbook.com. As I endeavor to "Go Green" I know it's like stepping back in time without getting rid of my comfort. I do a lot of things I learned as a child, like line drying my clothes, sweep the Instead of vacuuming, opening the windows in the morning to catch the breeze, but to buy what I need instead of everything that looks cool, more and more certain of my own food, and canning what I can not eat now. For me, "Going Green" is a state of mind. Do what fits your lifestyle and make things easy first, it is a process and plan as if you go to radical to soon, you are more likely to revert to bad habits. I also believe that there are good, better, best choices in most things. If you are not ready to start a vegetable garden, then try to find a farmers market, until you find a look for produce grown as close to home as possible and go organic when available. Many people think that "going green" is expensive, I disagree. Some changes can make an initial investment, but they generally save time. Things like weatherstiping and the cost of insulation, but the energy savings add up quickly. You may need to purchase reusable bags, but most stores give you a credit of 10 cents or 5 if you repaid within a few months. My top tips are make your home more energy efficient, which means also the use of natural light, cooling and heating. Reduce your packaging, if you eat more fresh food you will generally reduce packaging, it is the same thing they tell dieters, shop the Perimiter, that's where all the meat, dairy and produce are located. Purchase that what you will use, many Americans throw away a lot of food used. Buy in bulk, which does not only mean large packages, but this area with bins that you buy only what you plan to use. Replace disposable items with durable objects, if you eat out often and use of disposable paper or plastic plates, it is a wise investment to purchase a set of reusable plastic plates. Replace disposable razors, diapers and cleaning products such as Swiffer. Avoid bottled water, get a filter at home as Brita or Pur. Recycle, www.earth911.org will help you locate the nearest recycling center. I try to buy the plastics are # 1 and # 2, they are more easily recyclable. I also buy recycled products when available, which includes paper towels, napkings, toilet paper, tissues, school and office supplies and clothing. Detox cleaning, vinegar and baking soda clean almost anything, they can even losen a hair clog. Seventh Generation and Method are a consumer brands couple who are very respectful of the Earth. Just start small and build from there, do not get overwhelmed.
